In one of my limitless sprees of procrastination i was lamenting the decline of this forum (well, more like kinda missing it slightly) and I thought it would be cool to revive the site. Now, it's obviously not my site so it's not up to me but I thought it would be cool to get things happening here again. Now I'm not just talking more people posting on the forum either. I was thinking more along the lines of "Back and Better Than Ever." Basically I think it would be cool to slowly expand the site to include some content; possibly in the form of reviews, news, images, possibly even interviews from around the world of metal, obviously with a forum for the community too. As some of you know I have some hosting and webspace and a domain that I'd be willing to use. Basically this would involve getting a small team together who would be responsible for periodic reviews, news contributions, etc.
There's my speech. As of now it's just a kind of crazy idea with a small chance of happening, but I'd like to think it would be a very rewarding experience if we could get it off the ground and get a community going.
And of course, it also depends on others; whether anyone else would be willing to give it a shot.

Umm yeah Of course I've noticed the fact that it's getting more and more silent here.. also on my own account. I've always had that with all forums I've admined in the past you know, at some point the "new"-thing is just gone and it starts to silence down a bit.. I like your ideas though, plus your willingness to do this especially that You mean to start up a whole new site right, with a forum (or this one) included? I think it's a great idea and I'd love to contribute of course, though maybe not as main-staff-person.. you know But could we keep the name 'Darkwold', cause I like it The fact is that I got my priorities concerning the internet at LiveJournal right now.. I got lots of connections to maintain there as well.. So I'd like to contribute to the 'revival' but maybe in a smaller way.. As I'm concerned some of you (singular/plural) can take over the admin function here on the forum as well in some way.. There's this function called 'global moderator' who has about the same options as the admin.. If some of you would want to be made this thing, please say so! (My English sucks nowadays, hope you understood kind of what I meant

Well its always been an idea of mine to start something like this so I'll probably go ahead with it eventually. I'm rather busy right now with school and stuff so basically it would be me starting and working on the site a little bit but it would still be a while before it went. Obviously help with this would be welcome too.
In the meantime, it would probably be a good idea just to discuss any ideas/suggestions you have as well as what direction you would like to take this.

I can work with Dreamweaver as well ... but nothing too advanced ... and my problem is I suck at design :/ I can help with whatever's needed though to get it kickstarted. And as far as global moderator on this forum ... I am not sure whether it's really necessary. Right now there's not much activity, so moderation isn't really needed anyway.

Guess who's back? That's right, ME!!!!!! yeah, I've been busy lately (been far over a month since I posted here) with my forum and other forums but I'll try to be more active again (if you want me to)
anyway: First you need to ge more members before you can expand IMO, it's useless to have a major site with only 5-10 active members. Attracting members ain't exactly easy, I attract most of the members for my forum via myspace or Last.fm, if you just post your link with a little comment, you can get more members fast and it doesn't take much time to come up with a standard comment that can go for any user you'd like to join. Half of my current active members I found trough lastfm. Another way of getting more members is via affiliating (something like we post your banner and link if you post ours), this does work less than personally attracting but I've gotten 3 members this way. Also mouth to mouth is still the best advertising so tell your friends in real life and on other forums too. More ppl who know the site = more potential members.
Secondly: Are you gonna make a whole website for this forum? I'm willing to cooperate if I have the time. I'm a student in computing so I know a thing or 2 about the subject. Altough I mainly use Microsoft Frontpage to design I think I can be of some help.
Last but not least: Writing reviews of cds, detailed information about concerts, etc. does sound like a good idea but to this periodicly requires alot of time, you need at least 5 or more ppl to write a review every week for this to have use.
I'm willing to help in any way possible but you've got to realise I can't be helping 24/7, my priority is still my own forum and the one I'm cooperating with.
I guess that was about it. OMG, never thought my first post again would be so long. Oh well, hope you got something out of it.

It' s nice to see so many people willing to help Like I said earlier, it would start out small. Basically a website with a few reviews/media or whatever attached to a forum. Depending on how that goes we could branch it out more. I dunno, it's basically up to whoever wants to be a part of this as to what we want to include. Also, like I said earlier, it's gonna be a while till it gets started cause i basically know shit about designing good webpages but as long as the interest and ideas are there, it should happen eventually.

Well, I've been meaning to make another website for a while now (you might remember the one from vlinth which I'm still translating, yeah it takes alot of time which I don't have anymore) and this could be the right opportunity to do it. Just tell me what it should look like (skin, what pages you want, etc.) and I'll make one next week (got a week of vacation ahead so I should have time). Anyone can improve it afterwards.

Hmmm, really I don't think anyone would be too picky what it looks like, it's nice enough that you are offering to make one. Really any metal-ish looking one should do. Probably make links to a forum (which I plan to have up in a day or two), a review section, maybe news, and whatever else you think. (Or anyone else, if you have ideas, please post.) I guess in general make it look like metal but generic enough that it doesnt look focused specifically on one sub-genre or anything.

I think I get the main idea: an intro page with a large banner which leads here, a review page, a news page and a link page (there's always a link page on any site) with links to other metal sites (please post some sites). And all of this with a metal-music skin. I'm gonna need some help with the graphics since that ain't my best skill. I'll make a little preview which I'll e-mail to anyone who wants to view it (just pm me your e-mail for that). Give me a couple of days (won't have any time the next few days but wednesday should work.

*Sneaks into thread bashfully for having abadoned the forums too* Well i'm looking at having 3 months holidays off uni and am in need of desperate hobbies to fill in my time. I likely won't be able to make any original contributions in terms of ideas but feel free to dump some work and responsibility on me.

The third one is borked. When you mouseover a thread of subforum name the background and text are both white. At least in Firefox. The actual posts (black on dark grey) are also fuckhard to read. I hate that one The first one doesn't look too bad. Neither does the second one. The fourth one, I don't like yellow. I think in the end I prefer the Ad Infinitum one, with the red and white texts

I believe with phpBB it's possible to create a frontpage with the same layout as the forum. I've seen it done on other sites already. I do believe you'd need to manually program the frontpage though :/
