Tom Araya? Yes, he's good, but he's not exactly a very skilled and varied singer.
I didn't like Ripper Owens at all in Judas Preast, since he failed completely when he tried to be a Rob Halford-clone. He's much better in Iced Earth.

Bleh, i dont care for skill or variation, long as the song grinds along with the guitar, its damn good. He at least puts the raw anger of Slayer's lyrics into the vocals And i never get a headache listening to Slayer for hours, but being forced with some clean-cut vocal band always gives me the most torrid of headaches.

Whatever You say. Since this is not a "best singer", You don't need to care about skill and variety. I haven't tried listening to Slayer for hours, so I don't no, I guess it would get quite boring, though.

I totally agree on Devy, he is one of the greatest metal frontmen ever!

Yeah, definitely! He's got monstrous growls, both high and low and with a lot of intensity and actually also tone, and he's got a variable and amazing clean voice as well, with a huge register! ... and he plays guitar at the same time. Great guy!

Yeah, he's a father now, right? That's why he wrote all those childish-like songs like Babysong and Lullaby on Synchestra.

You should check it out, it's freakin' hilarious! This is the official videoclip of the song Vampira from Synchestra. There is a streamable (real media) version of this one on his website as well, but I think the quality is the same. Check this one out: www.youtube.com/watch?v=L6fdS2ny1J8

I think there are really some good metal singers. But the best ones are:
1 - Tarja Turunen (Ex-Nightwish) 2 - Roy Khan (Kamelot) 3 - Tony Kakko (Sonata Arctica)
There are still some other singers worth to be mentioned in this list ... But these are the ones I can judge the best! These singers were the first metal singers I was listening to, and I still love listening to their songs!

Clean vocalists: 1. Simen Hestnæs (Bornagar, Arcturus, Dimmu Borgir) 2. Hansi Kürsch (Bkind Guardian) 3. Timo Kotipelto (Stratovarius) 4. Kai Hansen (Helloween, Gamma Ray) 5. Garm (Arcturus, Ulver) Screamers/Growlers/Ect. 1, Satyr (Satyricon) 2. Novy (Dies Irae) 3. Ihsahn (Emperor) 4. Alexi Laiho (Children of Bodom) 5. Nergal (Behemoth) I could actually go on, but I'll refrain.

Ah Alexi He wasn't mentioned before I guess.. Satyr I remember a having a great voice indeed.. Though I only saw them once at a festival (in an 'odd' state) and don't have any Satyricon on computer/cd.. But still.. imo Michael Stanne (Dark tranquillity) remains the best growler there is in the entire world.. but I mentioned that already

The focus on Alexi is almost always on his fingers and not his vocal chords. However there is something about his voice I absolutely love. That goes for the ear drum rupturing screams and the newer more throaty style. His intentionally rough, unpolished voice is something I can't get enough of for some reason.
Ah, I won't allow myself to get into Satyricon. I'll just mention they are my most played band on Last.Fm and spare you the rant.

Yeah, he used to sing different in the early days.. and I don't like it that much either. When I first listened to the 'Something Wild' album I thought some of the vocals were just someone else's
