Slayer, the ultimate Thrash Metal band, these guys practically started Death metal and Black metal, complete legends. New album out in May. www.last.fm/music/SlayerJust gotta love this band. Two best albums probably have to be Reign In Blood, and Undisputed Attitude.

I only own Reign in Blood, but you are so true. It's an amazing album, and I love every second of it, while I'm normally not that much a fan of the Trash genre.

Slayer are one of the pioneers of Death Metal \m/ I own about 3 of their albums and i have to agree that Reign In Blood is a Death Metal masterpiece. I'm not a huge fan of the Thrash genre but Slayer stand out from most other bands ^_^ I was lucky enough to see Slayer when they came to the UK with Slipknot; i don't like Slipknot however, i thought they were really tight and played well.

Just a hint: Slayer is not death, but thrash metal. Actually they and Metallica are the reason there are a genre called thrash metal (though Metallica stopped thrashing and turned soft, those bastards).
I agree that Reign in blood is a great thrash album, and they really are the pioneers of their style.
A friend of mine saw the Slipknot/Slayer/Mastodon gig in Stockholm, that must have been really nice.

Slayer inspired Death Metal through being brutal in Reign In Blood. I know theyre Thrash, but songs like Piece By Piece cant be compared to something like Armed And Dangerous by Anthrax, am i right?

Well, maybe You're right about that, maybe not, since they were alot of debuting death metal bands at the time as well, and there were bands like Celtic Frost (an awesome band!), who played a great mix of thrash, death, black and doom metal (and eventually started mixing even more genres and went avantgarde). Since Slayer is like the purest thrash metal You could ever find, I wouldn't call them an influence to death metal.

Probably seeing them on the Unholy Alliance Tour (somewhere in november in Belgium here..) I should probably get to know the better before I go (though I'm mainly going for COB and In Flames )

They pwn big time. Favorite songs of em are: Raining Blood, Angel of Death (the guitar scream is still the best thing I've ever heard) and Hell Awaits.
I saw em a couple of years ago (the unholy allience with Slipknot and guest Hatebreed) and it was awesome. Hatebreed started real quiet but then came slayer and it almost blew me away.

I've been a fan of Slayer for a while now, I have all their albums and a dvd, for me I think atm is best Thrash metal band out there. But imo with God Hates Us All and those other new songs they are heading for the same direction metallica went years ago.Well I dont hope so, Cult was pretty good, but still not the old Slayer stuff, well I guess all bands change at a point, evelution isnt that bad.Oh, I forgot to say that they are one of the best live bands
