K, gonna try something new. Will post a one-liner to discuss on. Let's see if it has any success or not. I'll try to switch between political/philosophical/religious one-liners. Or if someone else knows a good one and there's no more ongoing discussion really you can always post one yourself.
Was thinking to start with one I read in a local newspaper interview with a police officer:
"You don't have to agree with a law, just obey it or suffer the consequences if you get caught."
Now I'm really wondering what this guy was thinking? The holocause happened because one guy said it should happen, the crusades happened because one pope said: "to kill a muslim is not a sin, it's like killing an animal while hunting." Apartheid was also legal decades ago, but was it right?
The way I see it, blind obedience of the law has led to the biggest atrocities in the world's history. Who are the people who are remembered as heroes? Not those that obeyed the law. But those that fought against unjust laws. I am NOT against law itself, but I will NEVER let any law supercede my own morality.

Uhu, sure.. blind obedience is the worst thing you can do.. You should always use your common sense when you do things.. Though, our laws here aren't that extreme are they? ^^ So I don't care obeying them (more or less )

Yeah, I know, but I like to think of the next years also. The Vlaams Belang almost gets 1/3rd of the votes in elections. How long will any cordon still hold? And don't tell me that party is ANY better than the nazi's of 1930 Germany.

I'm not that good at politics and stuff, but a friend of mine stated "Breaking the cordon sanitaire is the best way to destroy VB" Any toughts on that one?
imo i can see his point of view, voters would realise what a horrible Party took power thanks to their votes... but i wonder, why does that 1/3rd of flanders not see that now?

I can see that point in a way also. But my question would be, is it worth so much? Is it worth the risk that they take the country down with them when they get the power?
And why people don't see it? Because they are an opposition party.
Let's put it this way, when it comes to economics, the VB is extremely free market. You can compare their economic stance to that of President Bush in the US. YET, the majority of people who vote for them, are regular factory laborers and other employees that do shitty jobs. Why do those people vote for a party that goes directly AGAINST their best interests?
Because:
1) Many lost every inch of trust in all the other parties, for which I can't blame them, seeing as how this country has been governed for the past 175 years.
2) Because noone ever mentions those things. When the VB ever gets in the publicity, it's always to make claims about what's wrong with this county, without giving solutions, OR when it comes to immigration and safety. And in those few things, they DO say what the people want.
The VB is NOT able to govern country any better than the other parties; if anything, they'd only make things worse. That is the only way I can agree with that one liner.
Compare it to Agalev, the Green party. In 1999 they got in the government. The next elections, they were completely politically destroyed and didn't even make the minimum level anymore to have a single seat in parliament. Of course, it's a party we need, but they are fit to govern the country.
