Came across this beauty the other day with my friend and we got totally hooked. It's basically a clone of the PS2 game 'Guitar Hero' but free and for the PC. Those of you who have no idea what that is, it's basically a timing/rhythm game where you have to play different notes/chords/solos on your keyboard. Don't worry, there's only 5 different buttons (re-mapping the controls to the numbers 1-5 makes it easier) plus the pick (enter) so it's not all that confusing. The songs range from really easy to super challenging so it never gets old. The best part is you can make your own songs with the song editor or download a whole bunch off the internet made by others. A good place to start is also a big pack of all the songs from the origional guitar hero game. Ill post the link to the game below plus the must have guitar hero song pack and a few of my favorite songs.
Ok, here's the steps:
1. Download the game and unzip it. It's standalone so you don't even have to install it. Remember where you unzip it to though because you'll need to place some songs there.
Here's where you get it: louhi.kempele.fi/~skyostil/uv/fretsonfire/dist/FretsOnFire-1.0.225-win32.zip
2. Download these two song packs.
- Part 1: www.megaupload.com/?d=FUZKBNG4
- Part 2: www.megaupload.com/?d=S13XLRS1
3. Each of those files will have a bunch of folders in them, each being a song. Extract those to the DATA/SONGS folder inside the folder where you extracted the main program too.
4. Go to the main frets of fire folder and run the program. If you extracted the songs to the right place you should have about 50-60 songs to jam too. Of course, there can never be enough songs so...
Here are some extra songs to download. My personal favorite is Soul Society. I pwned my friend pretty bad with 130,000 on it so the challenge is open to you guys. Once you download the song, just extract to the DATA/SONGS directory in wherever you unzipped Frets of Fire.
GnR - Welcome to the Jungle: www.megaupload.com/fi/?d=QAOKELBE
Metallica - Enter Sandman: www.fretsonfire.net/songs/EnterSandman.zip
Arch Enemy - Nemesis: 193.189.74.35/~lemmi/fozz/fretsonfire/Arch%20Enemy%20-%20Nemesis.rar
Kamelot - Soul Society: www.mbnet.fi/~latuman/Kamelot_-_Soul_Society.rar
Have fun, and one last warning. Stay away from Dragonforce, I nearly died playing it
