I've figured there is a lot of power metal-fans on this forum, and don't get this wrong, I don't blame You, but I'd like to know what it is You fell for.
And I've got cramp in my stomach, so this'll be my last post for tonight.
Cheers. Silhouette

By the way, "Gaffel" is Swedish and means "fork" (it's an old joke from a community I spammed down ), but feel free to use it as some kind of "Other" option.

Not fair Where's the 'All/most of the above' option?

I would say vocals and melodies, but I like power metal for how it sounds as a whole

Not fair Where's the 'All/most of the above' option? That option got ill and couldn't make it, but we've got Gaffel, a great replacement. (I guess everyone is gonna vote Gaffel now oO )

Melodies and vocals. That's two things I like. I'm not so much only into power metal, as I like most kinds of metal as long as they don't exist purely out of growling and shreeking, and have a melody.

I think there are different reasons for different bands - Dragonforce are really really fast, where as I listen to Blind Guardian more for the vocals and lyrics.

Yeah - melodies and vocals totally. There are some absolutely breath-taking songs out there which blow you away and you want to listen to over and over again. I do love a bit of death metal as well tho - Lamb of God and Soilwork kick ass!

The sissyness, definitely ;D Only joking.. I went for melodies too, cause I also see that as a very important factor to like music or not like it.. By the way, "Gaffel" is Swedish and means "fork" (it's an old joke from a community I spammed down ), but feel free to use it as some kind of "Other" option. As long as you don't spam this community down .. Or I'll gaffel you, ay! ;D

Oh no, don't gaffel me! oO But, hey! I'm a mod, dammit! Mods don't spam! Besides, this gaffel thing is a very useful alternative. And apparently very underrated as well, since no one has voted for it yet. I wasn't going to vote on this, but now I really have too...

May I ask with in the power metal lyrics You like, then?
I consider the "standard" power metal lyrics, the ones about dragons, knights and epic battles, to be almost as boring as any modern pop lyrics.

I'm not a huge fan of that kind of lyrics either. I can listen to it sometime, but not all the time.
The lyrics of DragonForce are even worse. I think they simply use a random lyric generator with the words fire storm dragon war, and a few others. Though expect for those lyrics they are simply awesome, and I adore their music.
I love Sonata Arctica style lyrics mainly.

without having read the thread just the following:
metal started for me with power metal but nowadays I can't listen to it very much...it tends to get on my nerves very quickly...especially stuff like edguy or stratovarius....sonata is okay...guess there's no escape if you made your sister listen to them who now...yeah somehow the nickname sneltrekker seemed to be familiar (sonata-forum, right? though I don't post there anymore, just read...)
however I still like stuff like Blind Guardian or Masterplan (and more or less everything else Jorn Lande related)
but basically I mostly listen to prog and melodic death now...

Yeah, I don't reaaly like the "senseless" lyrics by bands like hammerfall or dragonforce. I mean, if yougoing to do fantasy, at least make it mean something.

Uhu, you guys are right about the DragonForce lyrics ^^ I had this game with some of my friends, picking out the words that appeared in almost any song, like indeed: dragon, storm, flame, mountain, fire, eternity, "we ride".. etc ^^

"With the power of the almighty swoooooord!"
That's great lyrics, isn't it? Well, actually no. It's too bad, since the music is great and the vocals are great. Though I don't think they consider themselves to be very serious about those lyrics (and I've met Herman and ZP, so I guess I know what I'm talking about).
