They seem to be alive yet.
Though I don't think this is very constructive at all. NSBM might be something bad in Your opinion (I don't like it either), but this is no 'We are gathered here to hope they'll die'-community, right?

National socialistic black metal. Read more at www.nsbm.com if You like. Most of what they say on the site doesn't make sense anyway.

Maybe I'm taking my moderator job a little bit too serious? oO But then again, this time it was just a great chance to tell the admin off. By the way, I've beaten You in post counts. Haha. Now, no more off topic. Bad Silhouette.

I enjoy most kinds of metal but I guess Black stands out from the rest next to Viking and symphonic

Dimmu Borgir, Darkthrone, Dawn, Behemoth, Carcass, Immortal, Katatonia and Emperor are some of my favorites

Not that Katatonia is a black metal band (they were death doom, and turned not-death doom/progressive), but anyway... Have You heard of a Swedish black metal band called Naglfar?
Behemoth is really a great band (I saw them on Sweden Rock Festival last year, brilliant show!), though they're hard to define sometimes, pending between black and death metal. But, anyway, at least it's extreme!

Katatonia is black metal sometimes, depending on who you ask it.
Never heard of Naglfar before, they're noted on my download list (currently over 50 bands long)
Most bands are hard to define cuz almost every band has influences of diffrent genres.

Since they're the most well known band in the whole doom genre together with Candlemass, Cathedral and My Dying Bride, I think You've asked the wrong people.
Yes, but one black metal influence in a death metal song doesn't make the band nor the album nor the song black metal. It's just that black metal influenced part that makes it a twist, and so probably a good listen, since those twists make the songs original. Mostly, I find most bands quite easy to define, except when it comes to progressive and avant-garde music, but that music isn't really necessary to define, since it maybe a mixture of every single genre on this planet, and thus, it would be necessary to define it anyway, since nobody would understand how it would sound.

Maybe it's just hard to define for me cuz I don't know that much about the diffrent conditions bands have to apply to to be part of a certain genre and actually I don't care too much about that. I just listen to what I like no matter what genre of metal it is and anybody who dislikes a band because it's part of a genre that he/she does not appreciates is a total idiot.

You're definitely right about that. I, too, listen to any music I find interesting, which varies from rock to metal to pop to jazz to folk, and so on.
The only reason tags really exists, is that it's a way to describe music someone hasn't heard before. If someone says they've found this band You should listen to, You might not be very interested, but if they tell You "Hey, I found this great black metal-band with lots of symphonic elements", it would probably interest You more, right?

Damn nobody did Death.....I'll vote Death. Actually I should've voted melodeath.. but the time I voted I must've had this symphonic stage going on ^^ Death and melodeath certainly deserve more votes!
