I don't know if anyone else has read the "Song of Ice and Fire" series by George R R Martin, but if you have, I thought we could discuss the series here; maybe talk about what you think (or would like to see) will happen in the upcoming books or just any random discussion about them.
Oh, and if you haven't read them, you're missing out. Read them asap.

The books are almost more like a historical fiction than a fantasy. The world and everything is made up but there really isnt too much magic or creatures or anything like that. The magic plays as more of a sinister background force. The story is gritty and realistic which is why I likened it to something historical. A lot of the characters seem like they really could have existed. The story starts a bit slow but really picks up, especially in book three. I wouldn't say its a must read, but it is a really good story, especially if you're looking for a bit of a change from the normal fantasy style books. If you are thinking of starting them, make sure you read them in order or you probably wouldn't really know what is going on.

This maybe belongs in a new topic in the art section, but here is a site with some really nice wallpaper from the series. There's also some cool portraits and a lot of times they are actually really close to how I pictured the characters when I was reading the book. A cool game sort of thing is to see if you can guess who all the portraits are of without looking at the names. amoka.net/eng/gal/wall/

I guess I shouldn't check these out before I read the books, then?

Looks pretty okay those wallpapers.. I always love fanart and don't really care if I see it before reading the actual books; but that's my opinion of course ^^

I just thought about his game, if I'm to try it out, I'd better read the book first. Though I don't know the book title in Swedish. I'd better check it out! oO

Yeah, most of the pictures don't give away anything. A lot are just portraits and such, as well as some of the scenes with dragons which are more of the background legends that you hear about in the books. The name of the first book in English is A Game of Thrones if that helps you at all.

Borrowed the first book today.
Not sure when I'll get to read it though. Got exams coming up, and I also borrowed Wheel of Time 4 and 5.

Begun reading it today. I'm loving it.
But I should have finished WoT series before I started this book I guess. Now I don't know what to do next.
I think I'll still finish WoT first before I get book 2 of SoIaF. If I try to finish both series together I'll get confused I guess, and I don't want to miss anything.

Finished book 1. I love the depth he gives the characters. Really pulled me in and gave me strong opinions on each character. Now I should first finish WoT before I get back to book 2 and 3 so I don't mix up too much. My favorite character would be Daenerys ... even though she can be just as stupid as that spoiled brat Sansa every now and then.

I don't think I ever liked Cersei ... so yeah, she's a character you love to hate.

I have now managed to 'obtain' the audio version of all four books, which is nice if i ever get around to listening to them. Ive read them all already but it's always nice to listen to an audio version too.

Just finished reading book two. There's 4 books? Damn that fucking library. They only have three. I HATE incomplete series.

There's actually going to be like 3 more I think. Origionally it was going to be 6 but it got too big so now it's up to seven or something. 'A Dance with Dragons' should be out by the end of the year.
